Asset Tag Format
Nomenclature:
- First 2 (alpha) characters = Machine Type where:
- MP = Mini PC ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SFF/Small Form Factor]] e.g. with mini-ITX or non-standard/proprietary motherboard smaller than above)
- LT = Laptop
- TL = Tablet Laptop (e.g. Microsoft Surface Pro & equivalents)
- TC = Thin Client
- IN = Intel NUC(6)
- NO = “NUC-Off” (Non-Intel UCFF PC (i.e. with nano-ITX motherboard))(7)
- MM=Mac mini
- OH=Other Hardware (e.g. the Sophos XG 125 that’s used for the router)
- Next 2 digits = specific machine number
- Last 2 digits = year of manufacture (XX if unknown)
Year of manufacture should give a rough idea of relative performance/robustness/suitability for a given application but clicking the link for any specific machine will bring up its page with full details of RAM, processor type, # of cores, and Passmark CPU benchmark score, along with other pertinent information.
Example: TC03-19 = Thin Client #3, manufactured in 2019
